Is Self Care At The Top Of Your Things To Do List?
Self-care is always important and even more so when living a fast-paced life where we can often feel like we never have enough time. When we are prioritising work, family commitments and other responsibilities it can seem as though we cant afford ourselves the opportunity to rest and relax and it’s only realised when we’ve ignored our body’s signal before it shuts down.
We can only give what we have but we can often give out more than we have, leading to burn out, a compromised immune system prone to colds and other sickness and disease, aches and pains and mental fatigue, stress and anxiety.
Self-care is mental health care and prevention is better than cure. Making the choice to make time for self-care is a way we can take care of ourselves in a holistic way and avoid the avoidable. Bringing moments of silence, of movement to release stagnant energy and built up the physical and emotional tension, and journaling or some form of creative release aligning our mind, body and soul is how we can restore and rejuvenate.
Focusing on our breathing with intention, grounds and centres us back to the present moment, away from the anxiety of worrying about the future and the depression of dwelling in the past. Making yoga part of the weekly ritual at the end of a busy week makes for a regular dose of much-needed self-care. Yoga teaches us to live with more intention and less monotonous action, to reach for assistance when we need it and the importance of adjusting when things get uncomfortable and unfamiliar rather than keep pushing causing more discomfort.
Studies show that yoga as mind-body relaxation exercise increases your vagal tone, activating the parasympathetic nervous system. Having higher vagal tone means that your body can relax faster after stress, so what are you waiting for? Restore and rejuvenate yoga is every last Saturday 6pm.at Eve and Grace.
Nourish, ground and realign. Practice self-care and invite in self-love.
